The Civic List Concorezzo - For the Common Good - this evening begins the campaign to make citizens aware of Concorezzo instruments of direct democracy. In Italy we have a representative democracy, this means that every 5 years the citizens elect their representatives delegated to administer. Would not it be nice if over 5 years of office, the citizens could make their voice with the certainty of being heard?
Direct democracy Representative democracy does not replace but complements it and makes it work better, thanks to some effective tools to give voice and power to the people.
Basically citizens must win - with an amendment to the municipal statute and with the appropriate regulation, two ways to administer. The first ("accelerator") is that citizens, having received the required number of signatures required by statute, may hold a referendum on a draft resolution of interest which, if approved by maggioranta of voters, must be accepted by 'Directors in certain times. The second ("brake") consists in the possibility of asking, with a petition and a referendum, the amendment or repeal of the resolutions approved by the administration.
Experience shows that citizens have access to these tools make it a very wise use: with them they are able, when necessary, to correct during construction work of the Administration, which is significantly more effective than not vote again at the end of the mandate of the authors damage unfortunately now realized!
In other countries these procedures are also more than a century and has shown that damage real benefits in terms of better management, greater participation of citizens in the definition of their decisions and democratic growth.
In essence, direct democracy is the missing leg to make complete democracy in Italy, which is why the Civic List wants to engage in this sense.
